How to Find Out How Old Your iPhone is
If you want to know how old your iPhone is, the first thing you’ll need to do is find out when it was purchased.
There are several ways that you can do this, including checking your purchase history using your Apple ID and looking at the serial number of your device. In most cases, these methods will help you determine when the phone came into your possession.

But if the phone was given to you as a gift or otherwise entered your life without being purchased directly by you, there are other methods that might work better.
Method 1: Check Your Purchase Date
If you bought your iPhone from Apple or an authorized Apple reseller, you can check your purchase date in your Apple ID account.
To do this, log on to appleid.apple.com and select the “See all” option under Devices in the sidebar on the left side of the page. Click on “iPhone” to see when you bought it.
If you didn’t buy an iPhone directly from Apple or an authorized reseller, your purchase date may still be available through other means:
If you’ve kept your phone bills , go through them until you find a charge for your iPhone’s full price. That will be the date that you purchased it.If so, select “See my support profile” at the bottom of that web page to view information about any devices associated with that account. The first option should say “When did I buy this device?” and then list the date below it.
Method 2: Use Your Serial Number
Here’s how to find your serial number:
- On the back of your iPhone, look for a 12-digit number that starts with “F/FN.”
- If your phone has a SIM card slot, the card tray can also hold a paper slip with the serial number printed on it.
- Head to Apple’s support website and click “Find My iPhone.” Enter the serial number in there and you’ll see when it was made.
Method 3: Check the Model Number
To find out when your iPhone was manufactured, click on the Apple logo in the top left corner of your screen. Select “About this Mac.” The “Serial Number” is listed here directly below the words “Serial Number:”
In a straightforward tone: Your serial number should be an 8-digit alphanumeric code starting with either F, M or P, and then 7 other letters or numbers. For example:
- F66KQS9XFVH5
- MGH82CHDCJL2
- P7THG8J1F7TN
If your serial number doesn’t look like one of those examples, you may want to double check that you’re looking at the right place. iPhone serial numbers are printed on the back of your device near the bottom.
